The Very Hungry Caterpillar by American children's author and illustrator Eric Carle was published in 1969 with its first publication created in Japan by Kaisei-Sha Publishing Co., after the late president's admiration towards the picture book. The book went on to sell 55 million copies worldwide and translated to 70 different languages.
Sanrio Greetings Co., Ltd founded in 1960 by Shintaro Tsuji in Tokyo, Japan. The name "Sanrio" translates to "three (san) daisy flowers (rio)," reflecting the company’s focus on cute and whimsical designs. The brand has created well loved characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and many more.
